Teaching

I am very passionate about teaching and therefore completed a further education program for teaching at the university level in 2020 (14 ECTS).

I enjoy sharing my passion for our field with young students who are at the beginning of their engagement with the broad field of communication and media research.

In my lecture "Gender & the Internet," I provide BA students (often in their first semester) with an overview of gender-related topics in the digital age. This includes sessions about the effect of gender in different levels of influence on online media content, stereotypical self-portrayal on social media, gendered AI, and stereotype threat in a digital context.

In my seminar "Who Does What? Gender Differences in Online Content Creation,"

I allow students to dive deep into a topic of their own choosing. Throughout one semester, they learn and implement the method of the qualitative content analysis and, thus, carry out their own empirical research project under my supervision.

Paper titles in the past years have included: "Female athlete's Instagram advertisements: reproducing and challenging gender stereotypes," "How does the fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni represent her persona as an enterprising feminine subject on Instagram?" "Gender Hybridisation and Online Makeup on YouTube: the Case of Jeffree Star," "Gender on Grindr: An Analysis of Gender Expression among MSM in Switzerland," "How do Women Portray Intimate Partner Violence on Instagram?" and "Asian Americans on TikTok: An Analysis of the Comment Section."
